We took a poll at the Radical Female Academy and here are the top five reasons women gave for why women do not start their own business.
Lack of money was the number 1 reason for failing to start a business. Not knowing what to do was number 2. Lack of time came in as number 3 and both the kids and the spousal objection tied for fourth place.
No doubt ladies, these are big obstacles! This is no joke.
Of course, none of this is surprising as statistically speaking these ARE the main objections people have for not starting their own business. I would add, the fear of not succeeding to this heaping pile of (insert expletive here).
So, here’s what I have to say about this:
Women Do Not Start Their Own Business
Most female entrepreneurs today do not have an abundance of financial resources at the tip of their fingers. Nor do they have a supporting spouse, nannies ’round the clock’ and loads of free time on their hands.
Most women have to start their business with none of these niceties in place. This was true for me when I started my business, and this is true for the majority of female entrepreneurs today.
Sure, there are a few exceptions who have had it easy but most have had to find the emotional grit to charge forward with a rock solid intention to let nothing stand in their way of claiming the life they truly desire with no guarantee of success!
When you get down to it if you want something bad enough you will find a way. The question to ask yourself is, how badly do you want it?
Here’s what I know to be true. Women do not start their own business. None of these obstacles will change on their own. Money isn’t going to suddenly appear (unless of course, you believe in the Law of Attraction and have mastered the “Art of Allowing…). Time will not increase. You will never have more than 24 hours in a day. You won’t figure out what business to start by accident; the kids will never stop needing you (so long as they are living under your roof) and your spouse is not going to support you out of the blue, for no good reason.
What can we do?
So, what do we do? How do we solve these problems? The answer may seem impossible but it’s actually quite simple:
You just start! Then, you start by making a decision. Finally, you decide to decide and then you take it one baby step at a time. Moving the ball forward every day toward your goal.
If you can do that, here’s my promise to you: If you can commit to starting your own business, the obstacles currently standing in your way will move aside. That’s a big promise I know, but I am 100% certain about this.
I am 100% certain because everything ever created in our world started with an idea that became a commitment, that turned into a passion, that moved mountains to be obtained.
Most of the luxuries we enjoy today, such as electricity, running water, food in our groceries stores, travel, clothes, freedom, you name it, started out just this way. Someone had a desire or an idea that became a commitment, that turned into a passion, that moved mountains to be obtained!
No person I know and no one I have studied had it all worked out in advance.
A very wise man once said, “the solution to the problem cannot be solved from the place it was created.”
If starting a business is something you strongly desire to do, then make the commitment to do it! Do one thing every day towards reaching that goal, and watch how those mountains move aside for you.

To your radical success!
